Construction day 1/12/15
Today I did construction. ALL DAY! It was unbearably hot. Thankfully two of the Jamaicans working there, Dwayne and Calvin, covered the site with a tarp about 10 minutes in. It was a good thing they did too, because sometime in the afternoon it started to rain. First it was just a drizzle, then a steady rainfall, then it was like someone had unlocked the sky dam or something. For a good ten minutes I was convinced that we were in the middle of an undetected hurricane........ then it stopped. Just like that.
As the day went on I felt more and more confident doing the masonry work. I felt so great knowing I was making an actual, tangible impact over here. You rarely have opportunities like that in the states. I loved the feeling of wiping my sweat of my face every 2 minutes because it meant I was working hard. I was so impressed with how much I had improved throughout the day and how much we had gotten done by the end of it.
By the end of the day, eventhough I was so incredibly dirty and sweaty, I was really impressed with myself and all the work I had done. It was a very productive day. I can not wait to come back next year.
